Hanoi, located in the North, is the capital of Vietnam. This gallery features photos from exploring the city of Hanoi and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Presidential Palace.
The high cost of land in Vietnam is why many of the buildings in and around Hanoi are very narrow and tall.
The Ho Chi Minh mausoleum is a memorial in the centre of Ba Dinh Square, where Ho Chi Minh, Chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam, read the declaration of independence on 2 September, 1945. Inside the mausoleum in a glass coffin is Ho Chi Minh's embalmed body, surrounded by military guards. There are strict rules for entering the mausoleum, including no photography, so I was only able to photograph the mausoleum's exterior. Near the mausoleum is the Ho Chi Minh museum and Presidential Palace.
